tubefrontBOX.jpgThe proposed strike on three London Underground lines has been suspended after union members were offered an improved pay deal.


The RMT have agreed a deal "in principle" with maintenance consortium Tube Lines which will suspend the 72-hour stoppage scheduled to start at noon tomorrow.

The strike would have affected the Jubilee, Piccadilly and Northern lines.

ANY PROBLEMS? No problems on the Tube at the moment but keep an eye on the chart on the right sidebar of this site for updates.

Currently, the planned strike by Tube Lines staff is still on for tomorrow. So expect problems on the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines from late morning on Wednesday through to Saturday.

DLR: A good service is operating.

ROADS: The only major problem is with traffic coming in to Canary Wharf from central London due to an accident at The Highway in Stepney. The eastbound road was closed at 4pm.

FERRIES: A good service is operating.

LONDON City Airport hopes a partnership with Streetcar will boost its green credentials.

Bosses at the airport have signed a deal to offer dedicated spaces in its car park for the company which deals in car sharing.

Former Island rower wins Olympic gold

FORMER Isle of Dogs boater Mark Hunter swept to Olympic gold in Beijing on Sunday.

Mark, 30, and teammate Zac Purchase, 22, became the first British rowers to take gold in the lightweight men's double sculls, ahead of rivals Greece and Denmark.

The East End-born athlete began his rowing career at the Poplar, Blackwall and District club, and trained for six years in a bid to skipper passenger and freight boats on the Thames.

The AVERAGE homebuyer put down a 22 per cent deposit in June, up from 20 per cent in May, according to new figures from the Council of Mortgage Lenders.

The majority of lending continues to be on conservative terms, as lending criteria have tightened in response to the shortage of funding and current market conditions.
